Cast Announcement

Synopsis

The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, and their two fathers who try to keep them apart. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo's words that, "without a hurt, the heart is hollow."

Please arrive early enough to complete registration before auditions begin.

Registration will open at 6:00 on Sunday the 8th, and at 6:00 on Monday the 9th.

 

Details:

Prepare a less than one-minute song (32 bars) – bring sheet music or track on phone or tablet. NO MUSIC FROM THE SHOW  

Dress to dance

No monologue needed.

Be prepared to stay the entire night if needed. 6:30-9:30PM.

 

Tech Week: November 3-7th

Show Dates: Fri-Sun November 8th – November 24th Rehearsals: Sundays 530p-830p, Tuesdays & Thursdays 630p-930p, Saturdays 10a-1p (as needed) Full company will not always be called to each rehearsal. The schedule is subject to change based on availability and location.

 

Please bring all known conflicts for any days from September 15th through November 7th to auditions with you. We cannot consider any conflicts for Tech Week or Performances

CASTING

The Narrator (El Gallo)

A rakish, handsome, sophisticated gallant and narrator of the show. He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience, but has his own darker moments. He aids the performers in orchestrating the story.

Gender: Male

Age: 30 to 50

Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: Ab2

 

 

The Girl (Luisa)

A button-maker's young and pretty daughter, she is a romantic idealist who falls in love with Matt. She is naive, yet honest and tender.

Gender: Female

Age: 15 to 25

Vocal range top: B5 Vocal range bottom: B3

 

 

The Boy (Matt)

An innocent, young man who is searching for love and adventure. A bright guy, but naive and even foolish at times, approaching situations with a false bravado.

Gender: Male

Age: 18 to 25

The Boy's Father (Hucklebee)

A former boisterous navy man and meticulous gardener who fakes a fight with girls’ parent in hopes of getting their children to fall in love.

The Girl's Father (Bellomy)

A fastidious button-maker and also a picky gardener who fakes a fight with the boy’s parent in hopes of getting their children together.

The Actor (Henry)

An aging, over-the-top Thespian who specializes in reciting Shakespeare, he is a commedia clown; his world is the stage and he knows no other reality.

The Man Who Dies (Mortimer)

Henry's goofy sidekick and another former actor who specializes in stage deaths. A commedia clown, his world is the stage and he does not live in reality.

Gender: Male

Age: 30 to 50

 

 

The Mutes (there will be two)

A speechless presence who watches, acts as the wall, and deals with props; the "invisible" stage assistant. Should be able to easily assist in the story or fade into the background unnoticed. Must have strong dance ability
